Wine tastings in the sun, Mexico City's natural wine scene, Crosby signs for MOB, + more!
Unmatched natural wine coverage on a global scale.
As I basked in the short-lived 12-degree Mancunian sunshine curating this week’s wineletter for you, I couldn’t help but feature some spring-inspired news pieces for you to catch my energetic spring vibes! Much like almost everything during this time of year, there’s activity and growth in the global natural wine scene, I hope you find value in this week’s wineletter.
Noble Rot open third London restaurant in Mayfair, April 6th
Talk about exciting spring news, ay? The team behind the now Noble Rot Empire made drinking and reading about wine cool again, big g moves since day one. The opening of their 3rd restaurant in Mayfair of London gets my juices flowing like crazy, a next London trip is definitely on the horizon!
It gives us methuselahs of pleasure to announce that Noble Rot Mayfair will open in Shepherd Market at dinnertime on Thursday 6th April 2023 - the third restaurant from Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew, the duo behind Noble Rot magazine, Keeling Andrew & Co wine importers, and Shrine to the Vine wine shop.
Shepherd Market's atmospheric alleys are built on the site of the late 1600s' original May Fair and became notorious as Central London's rackety red-light district. Hidden away from Mayfair's more plutocrat- infested byways, it's still something of a London secret - and the perfect home for the Rotters' new den (perhaps not of iniquity, but of distinctly sybaritic pleasures).
Vogue unearths Mexico City’s booming natural wine scene
After Maldonado took over the distribution of Bichi, the two quickly set about realizing their shared vision for Mexico City to become a natural wine haven. When Noma came to Tulum for a six-week pop-up in April and May of 2017, Bichi was the only Mexican wine Rene Redzepi served. Word quickly spread throughout the country’s culinary community, leading to the first wave of new openings with natural wine lists, including Le Tachinomi Desu in Colonia Cuauhtémoc, the city’s first natural wine and sake bar. (Owner Edo Kobayashi was so dedicated to the standing bar’s natural wine list he even flew over rare varietals in his suitcase from Japan.)
Natural wine writer and broadcaster, Hannah Crosbie, signs with MOB
I gotta say, i’m buzzing for Hannah on this move! It reflects the current position of the natural wine movement in mainstream food and wine media. I won’t lie though, MOB media can be incredibly cheesy and wet (pun not intended), but there’s no denying their global reach is monstrous and this move will undoubtedly bring more attention to natural wine - fair play to you Hannah and good luck!
hello internet :) I am enormously pleased to tell you that I am joining @mob as their first-ever wine contributor from today !!!
my agony aunt column will be part of mob+ where l'Il be answering your wine questions and giving my cheap and cheerful recommendations (more info on how to do so
