Natural wine is a diverse & compelling subject. Each and every person involved with the industry, both consumers and business have an incredibly unique meaning or definition of what natural wine means to them.
Today’s guest contributor is a LONG TIME best friend of mine, as a matter of fact, he’s probably one of the first five people I befriended when I moved to Manchester, five years ago. We’ve got very similar interests when it comes to food and beverages having both come from a hospitality background and yeah, my man is REALLY shining these days; Rick has doubled down on his food videography skills, uploading movie-like reels and tiktok’s all to do with his day-to-day life involved with the food industry, not to mention his still photography behind the lens, one of a kind type pictures!!
Rick and another super close friend of ours, Jack Surplus, run a food social media business called SnaccDiaries where the two work closely with restaurants in Manchester, take weekly photos and videos of all the food and then offer to take over their social media for a monthly fixed rate!
So today I give Rick Farthing’s thoughts on what natural wine means to him, I hope you enjoy it!

What natural wine means to me
Rick Farthing
Now what natural wine means to me has slowly, but damn sure become deeper and deeper. I find myself thinking about it intoxicated every now and again, and each time it feels like I’m going deeper and deeper into some sort of DMT trip.
Each time unlocking a door into how deep the making of natural wine can be. Like, spiritually.
On my latest intoxicated journey, I remember laying down in bed thinking about how natural wine and the creation that goes on within the vineyards was like art. Not like a dance or some Renaissance work, or even some splatter-paint David Pollock stuff. Simply, stubbornness. How winemakers have gone out of their way to simply do what they give a fuck about. Not to conform to the ideas of others and to follow suit to those that have conformed to them. But to do things how they see fit. Just like an artist. An artist uses what they’ve got around them, be it tools, or experiences. Just like a natural winemaker.
Although an artist may take inspiration from others, so too does a natural winemaker. And although a natural winemaker honestly showcases the land, as well as themselves within a little 750ml bottle, an artist does too? Just within a canvas and a frame.
I know, I know, intoxicated.
I’ll leave it at that.

Make sure to show my guy some love on all of his channels because I’m certain he’s about to blow up!!
